Was on the job for eight years. Seen lots of desk, in lots of offices. Was at that desk for a year and a half. My desk had the best view. Sat right in the window. I was the first person clients saw, when they pulled up. Used to piss my hateful co-worker off. Sure wont be missing her. One of the most wicked people I've ever met On my last day, I sat at that desk and looked around it. Thought about all the people I've met and helped above and beyond. While I'm having these thoughts, regular clients are strolling in back to back and going "OOOOOOOOOOH NO, YOU CANT LEAVE," as I tell them its my last day. All the hugs and "whys" began to take a toll on me. One of my co-workers kept phoning me and saying "dont leave!?" I have to be honest and say I will miss my regular clients. Some of them, I got to know their entire families. I was given so many phone numbers and email addresses. Paper all in my purse. I was staring out the window, realizing I loved that view so much. But guess what? My new office is on the 12th floor of a building and I have such a view clean across the city. Its amazing. I cant wait to shoot the sun sets. I begin to pack up all my personal items on my desk and all the gift bags from clients and coworkers. My boss walks over and hands me this really nice book about journeys. Was actually a kind gesture, even though Im no fan of hers. Before I leave, I pick up the phone to change the passcode to all zeros and change the message. "YOU HAVE REACHED AN EMPTY DESK. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE. YOU HAVE REACHED AN EMPTY DESK. IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE, PLEASE HANG UP AND DIAL... I REPEAT, YOU HAVE REACHED AN EMPTY DESK!" *sigh*
I pick up my paddle and began my journey in my canoe. Notice I said canoe and not boat. Thats because there is no room for another this time. Its my journey. And being up the creek isnt a bad thing. Know why, small waters lead to larger bodies of water. Just wait until I hit the ocean. Will be like flying. Wont be able to stop me!
I dedicate this to all the mofo's that stood in my way or dug graves for me or threw daggers.......YOU HAVE REACHED AN EMPTY DESK!!! . |
